Two passenger elevators were out of order in a 16-storey building in Yangikhayot district

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Two passenger elevators were out of order in a 16-storey building in Yangikhayot district of Tashkent, where the elevator fell on 18 June. This was reported on Monday by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan, citing data from the regional Department of Internal Affairs.

Due to a malfunction, the residents of the building used the freight elevator. On 18 June, a freight elevator with 13 people in it fell in house No. 17 in the Yangi Darkhon mahalla.

The house was built by Land House. Construction began in March 2022. The house was commissioned in May 2023. The house has three elevators - two passenger and one cargo.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reports that the freight elevator, designed for 1 ton, was overloaded. 13 people entered the elevator on the 16th floor and from the 10th floor the elevator began to accelerate. On the 1st floor, for technical reasons, the elevator control was turned off.

All passengers of the elevator were taken to the traumatology department of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. In 6 patients, leg fractures were diagnosed, the remaining 7 were discharged due to a satisfactory state of health.

Among the victims are three women and two boys aged 7 years and less than 2 years.

The incident is currently under investigation.
