Turkey invests over US$1 billion to Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, 29 October, Turkey marks the 89th anniversary of Declaration of Republic. Turkey acknowledged independence of Uzbekistan on 16 December 1991 and opened Embassy in Tashkent.

Turkey and Uzbekistan signed over 90 bilateral agreements and protocols and organized high-level mutual visits to develop relations.

Two countries are cooperating in various areas and the countries want to expand mutual cooperation in all potentially perspective spheres.

Uzbekistan with its historic and cultural heritage, strategic position, natural resources and 29 million population, occupies key role in ensuring peace and stability in Central Asian region. Turkey pays great attention to development of mutual beneficial relations with Uzbekistan in all spheres.

Embassy of Turkey in Uzbekistan said that trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkey made up US$1.295 billion in 2011. The growth rate made up 13%. Exports rose by 26% to US$355 million and imports – by 9% to US$940 million.

In 1991-2012, Turkish construction firms conducted construction works for over US$2 billion. Currently, Çalık Enerji is completing modernization works at Navoi thermal power station, which was launched in 2009. The object will be commissioned soon. DAL Teknik Makine will construct cement plant in Jizzakh.

Total volume of investments of Turkey to Uzbekistan made up over US$1 billion. Currently, there are 579 enterprises with Turkish capital in Uzbekistan and 84 offices of Turkish firms. They work in such areas as textile, food, hotel, pharmaceutics, construction materials, services, etc. They export goods for over US$300 million a year and provide jobs to 50,000 people.

Turkey attracts attention with development of its tourism sector. In 2011, it attracted 31.5 million tourists and it is on sixth place in the world and fourth place on this figure.

The embassy said that number of tourists, visiting Turkey, also increased sharply. The embassy added that it is expected that 100,000 tourists from Uzbekistan to visit Turkey in 2012. It noted that Turkish people interested in visiting Uzbekistan and simplification of visa procedures and increasing number of flights between two states could raise number of tourists inflow to Uzbekistan.
