Tokyo to host 2020 Summer Olympic Games
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 125th session of the organization in Buenos Aires (Argentina) selected Japan’s Tokyo as the host of the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

IOC President Jacques Rogge, who will step down from his role in the organization, announced the results of the vote.

In the final round of voting, Tokyo (60 votes) defeated Turkey’s Istanbul (36 votes). Madrid also competed to host the Games, but it had been eliminated in a first round of voting. Tokyo earlier hosted the Games in 1964 and became the first Asian city to host the Games twice.

Three Prime Ministers – Japan’s Shinzo Abe, Spain’s Mariano Rajoy and Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan – arrived in Buenos Aires to support bids of their cities.

It is worth to mention that the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. London, Great Britain, hosted the previous Games in 2012.
