Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JSC "Thermal Power Stations" is implementing 11 major investment projects with a total value of US$3.2 billion. Upon completion of these projects, the power capacity of the plants will increase by 2.3 GW, meeting the country’s growing energy needs.
In 2024, it is planned to utilize US$616.9 million from all funding sources. For the period from January to September 2024, US$358.72 million has been utilized, exceeding the planned target of US$354 million by 101.3%. Compared to the same period in 2023, this figure grew by 155.2%.
For reference, in the period from January to September 2023, US$231.1 million was utilized.
In April of this year, the investment project to construct two gas turbine units with a total capacity of 32 MW was completed at the Tashkent Thermal Power Plant. Additionally, by the end of the year, as part of cogeneration projects in six neighborhoods at the outer edges of Tashkent’s heating network, cogeneration devices are planned to be launched in the Almazar and Sergeli districts.
Systematic measures are also being implemented to meet the population’s demand for electricity and heat during the autumn-winter season of 2024-2025 and to ensure uninterrupted service throughout the season.
In preparation for the upcoming season, repair work has been carried out at 53 energy facilities, including 14 power units, 28 boiler units, 7 combined cycle plants, 1 turbo generator, and 3 gas turbine units. These repairs exceeded the planned targets.
At 11 energy facilities, where operational teams identified deficiencies, additional major and routine repairs have been performed.
As a result of these repair and adjustment works, the existing electricity generation capacity has increased by 291 MW, and the efficiency of heat production has improved by 235 tons per hour.
At 15 of the 60 boiler units across 10 thermal power plants under LLC "Tashkent Heat Center" of JSC "Thermal Power Stations", major repairs have been carried out, while routine maintenance has been completed on the other 45 units.
During the upcoming autumn-winter season of 2024-2025, JSC "Thermal Power Stations" plans to generate 26.8 billion kWh of electricity and 9.2 million Gcal of thermal energy. To achieve this, 6.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, 2.8 million tons of coal, and 100 million cubic meters of underground gas are projected to be used. In emergencies, fuel oil will be utilized as a backup fuel.
To ensure the quality of repair work, alongside the specialists from the thermal power plants, qualified personnel from JSC "Uzbekenergoremont", LLC "Uzenergosozlash", and representatives from international companies such as General Electric (USA), Mitsubishi (Japan), and Hyundai (South Korea) participated in the processes.
Currently, all thermal power plants and centers have established special operational headquarters to coordinate the continuous operation of energy equipment, working on a rotational basis. More than 2,000 qualified specialists and 112 units of specialized equipment have been assigned to ensure the smooth operation throughout the autumn-winter season. Ten rotating teams consisting of management and key specialists are working around the clock.
