There is a trend towards a sharp reduction in gas exports to Europe by Russian Gazprom

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the company’s report, in the half half of this year, gas fuel supplies to Europe fell by 18% to 78.9 billion cubic meters. At the same time, exports to Germany, which is the largest buyer of Russian gas, fell by 25%, to 20.1 billion cubic meters, to Italy - 14% up to 9.9 billion cubic meters.

Supplies to Turkey fell 1.7 times to 4.7 billion cubic meters.

Commenting on the emerging negative trend for Gazprom, experts draw attention to the following.

1. Increase in production and supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. Despite the collapse in global LNG prices and related problems, US suppliers continued to increase their share of the gas market. The United States increased by the end of the 1st half of this year. LNG sales to Europe compared to the same period last year by 129%, to 17.4 billion cubic meters. m (6.2% of the market).

2. Gas supplies to Turkey, which is the second market in terms of product exports for Gazprom, have begun from Azerbaijan via the South Caucasus gas pipeline from the fields of the Shah Deniz project.

In addition, Qatar reduced LNG supplies to Asia due to falling prices in this market and redirected them to Europe. Doha increased sales in the region by 16% to 18.4 billion cubic meters. m (6.6% of the market).

It is assumed that in the 2nd half of this year, the situation for Gazprom will be more favorable. Gazprom has already sold about 3 billion cubic meters on its electronic trading platform. m of gas with delivery in the 4th quarter of this year. But much will depend on the state of the Turkish gas market, where the supply situation continues to fall.

In general, experts note that although the second half of the year may turn out to be somewhat easier for Gazprom, the competition will not become less fierce, if gas prices in Europe rise, then LNG producers will increase supplies in this direction.
