The winners of the competition “Human Rights through the Eyes of Children” were awarded

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 December 2023, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (NCHR) hosted an award ceremony for the winners of the “Human Rights through the Eyes of Children” competition. It was held jointly with the editors of the republic’s children’s publications “Tong yulduzi” and “Class!”

The competition was organized in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 31st anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The ceremony was attended by the winners of the competition from the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions of the country and the city of Tashkent, as well as their parents, grandparents, and teachers. The award ceremony was attended by famous lawyers and journalists, poets and writers, and public figures.

In the Program of Events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 12 May  2023, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights and the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Children’s Rights (Children’s Ombudsman) were instructed to carry out this competition at the republican level.

Opening the event, Akmal Saidov, First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, said that the present and future of our talented children with high potential are in good hands. The Constitution is the ABC of legal knowledge, and this competition once again emphasizes the importance of studying it.

The first stage of this competition took place on 23 February, and its second stage started on June 1 - International Children’s Day. The competition was held in the following categories: “Best article and essay”, “Best poem”, “Best picture”, “Best video”.

In a short period, the editors of both newspapers received more than 300 materials and creative works by young artists, the analysis of which, on the one hand, clearly showed the interest of representatives of the younger generation in the field of human rights, and on the other, presented the uniqueness of each creative work submitted to the competition.

Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Children’s Rights (Children’s Ombudsman) Surayyo Rakhmonova, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Tong yulduzi” Feruza Adilova, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Class!” Margarita Arutyunova noted that most of the creative works submitted to the competition revealed the role and significance of the norms of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the lives of children. At the same time, the creative works of the competition winners are distinguished by their own approach to revealing the topic and talented execution.

Significantly, the summing up of the results of the competition is held within the framework of the “Decade of Human Rights”, announced in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and on the eve of the 31st anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Such legal educational events are important for developing in younger generations a sense of love and devotion to the Motherland, raising our children in the spirit of respect for the Constitution and laws.

The winners of the competition were solemnly awarded diplomas and souvenirs from the organizers.

Children who took an active part in the competition were also noted. Letters of gratitude were also presented to representatives of partner organizations and editorial offices who made a significant contribution to the competition.

At the end of the event, young poets from among the winners of the competition read their poems, and also demonstrated photographs and video clips that were recognized by the selection committee. The solemn atmosphere was complemented by music and songs played at the event.
