The US administration is stepping up restrictive measures against Chinese companies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- So, on 18 December 2020, the US has blacklisted 10 Chinese companies, including the leading chip maker Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation and the unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer SZ DJI Technology.

On the same day, US President Donald Trump signed the Foreign Companies Accountability Act, which obliges companies that list shares on American stock exchanges to confirm that they are not under the control of the authorities.

According to the law, foreign business must submit reports to US regulators. If the company does not meet the audit requirements within 3 years, it will be deprived of access to the exchanges.

The White House said that the main goal of the new law is to restrict the placement of shares of Chinese corporations on US exchanges.

Beijing called Washington’s measures discriminatory, saying that the PRC would apply a mirror response.

According to experts, through the use of sanctions, the United States wants to achieve the following goals:

first, by adopting the Foreign Companies Accountability Law, Washington creates a legal framework for applying sanctions against Chinese companies and additional leverage to put pressure on China;

second, the White House is trying to limit the opportunities for high-tech companies in the PRC, which challenge the dominance of US enterprises in world markets. The sanctions list includes those Chinese companies that hold leading positions in the global markets for semiconductors, video surveillance technologies and intelligence.

In general, according to experts, the restrictive measures taken by the administration of President Donald Trump against China indicate that the American-Chinese confrontation is expanding, covering more and more new areas, including high-tech. Experts believe that in these conditions, tension in relations between the United States and China will be long-term.
