The upcoming UN Climate Conference - COP-28 was presented in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A press briefing dedicated to the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28) was held in Tashkent. The event was attended by representatives of key government and international agencies, media representatives and bloggers.

The purpose of the briefing is to present COP-28 to media representatives and bloggers for further coverage of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference, which will be held on 1-2 December in the UAE.

The press briefing was organized by the UAE Embassy in the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change and the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media.

The speakers at the briefing were the Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission of the UAE Embassy in Uzbekistan Mohammed Al Zaheri, Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change for International Relations Suna Park, Director of the Public Fund for the Support and Development of National Mass Media Akromjon Fozilov.

Mohammed Al Zaheri made a welcoming speech at the opening of the event, noting the importance of economic transformation and Net Zero in solving the global problem:

“The UAE has always viewed climate action as an opportunity to make a practical contribution to solving a global problem that affects all countries, while diversifying its economy and creating knowledge, skills and jobs for future generations through a Net Zero economy. The UAE was the first country in the region to sign and ratify the Paris Agreement in 2016, committing to economy-wide emissions reductions and announcing a Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative.

In turn, Suna Park emphasized that at the 78th UN General Assembly, the President of Uzbekistan put forward the initiative to adopt the UN General Assembly Resolution “Central Asia in the face of global climate threats: solidarity for common prosperity” and spoke about the planned participation of Uzbekistan in the global conference.

“On issues of climate change and environmental degradation, regional cooperation plays a key role, since the countries of Central Asia share most of the environmental challenges. Therefore, Uzbekistan’s participation this year at the UNFCCC 28 climate conference will take place within the framework of a single Central Asian pavilion of 5 countries - 1 region - 1 vote, as well as under the auspices and in support of the initiative put forward by the President at the UN General Assembly. This decision was made in order to strengthen the position and voice of the Central Asian countries on global climate platforms,” the adviser noted.

During the press briefing, Mohammed Al Zaheri presented the concept of the UN COP-28 climate summit under the chairmanship of the UAE, and also introduced the audience in detail to the initiatives, actions and achievements of the UAE to combat climate change. In turn, Suna Park spoke about Uzbekistan’s achievements in the field of ecology, the country’s experience in green development and Uzbekistan’s upcoming participation in COP-28.
