Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Agency for Strategic Reforms notes that the share of the US dollar in the import of goods and services of Uzbekistan decreased from 83% in 2019 to 79.5% in 2023. At the same time, the share of the euro in imports decreased from 12% to 9.9%.
The total share of the US dollar and euro in Uzbekistan’s trade turnover also decreased - from 99.1% in 2019 to 93.2% in 2023.
The use of the Russian ruble in payments has increased significantly. The share of the ruble in exports increased more than six times, from 0.8% to 5.3%, and in imports by 1.8 times, from 4.2% to 7.6%.
In addition, Uzbekistan began to actively use the national currency - the soum - in foreign trade. Payments for imports in soums increased 10 times: from the equivalent of US$8.7 million in 2019 to US$87 million in 2023. In exports, settlements in soums increased from US$2.4 million to US$21.2 million.
