The second stage of national consultations within the framework of the global program on new technologies and cybersecurity ends

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 3 June, the second stage of national training sessions “Development of national counter-terrorism policies and operational response measures to counter the use of new technologies for terrorist purposes while simultaneously protecting human rights” took place in Tashkent.

This project is being implemented within the framework of the Global Counterterrorism Program on Cybersecurity and New Technologies (CT TECH) with financial support from the European Union.

The event was organized by the Counter-Terrorism Center at the Counter-Terrorism Office (CTO) of the UN, the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The training sessions were attended by representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Cabinet of Ministers, law enforcement agencies, as well as relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.

During the event, a Report on the Review of the Potential of Uzbekistan’s Law Enforcement Agencies in the Use of New Technologies to Combat Terrorism was presented. The purpose of this review is to provide the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a deeper understanding of its capabilities and readiness to use new technologies in the fight against terrorism, as well as to determine priorities for investment in the development of existing capabilities in this area.

Speakers noted that terrorists are increasingly using new technologies and innovations to implement their plans. The rapid spread of communication platforms, social networks, encryption methods, and new technologies creates serious challenges for law enforcement agencies. In this regard, it was emphasized that it is necessary to develop law enforcement capabilities to effectively counter constantly evolving threats.

The CT TECH program is a joint initiative of the UN Counter-Terrorism Center at the UN Counter-Terrorism Office and INTERPOL, fully funded by the European Union. The program aims to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement and criminal justice authorities to counter the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.
