The role of women in managing the affairs of society and the state to increase

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the next plenary meeting of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the draft law “On Amendments to the Election Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was considered in the first reading.

It was noted that in recent years the country has been implementing large-scale reforms aimed at strengthening the social status of women in society, ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men.

The new version of the Constitution strengthens the constitutional foundations, providing for new mechanisms to ensure equality between women and men. In particular, Article 58 of the Constitution stipulates that the state ensures equal rights and opportunities for women and men in managing the affairs of society and the state, as well as in other spheres of public and state life.

The role and importance of women in positive changes in various areas achieved in our country is increasing. Especially every year, the participation of women in such important spheres and sectors of public life as education, medicine, economics and industry increases.

In particular, today the role of women in the activities of representative bodies has also increased significantly. Today, more than 30 percent of the deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 25 percent of the members of the Senate and deputies of local Kengashes are women.

Along with this, it is advisable to increase the number of women in representative bodies of power and ensure equal conditions for their full participation in managing the affairs of society and the state. Based on this, a group of deputies developed this draft law.

This bill proposes to amend Articles 70 and 91 of the Electoral Code, providing for an increase in the number of women nominated by political parties from thirty to forty percent of the total number of candidates for deputies.

It was noted that the adoption of the document will serve to strengthen the role of women in managing the affairs of society and the state, the electoral process, as well as their political activity.

The draft law was adopted by deputies.
