Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As of 1 July 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the retail sector reached 95 392 units, of which the number of operating large enterprises amounted to 318 units, and small enterprises and microfirms – 95 074. Including retail trade indicators include data collected on the basis of observations of organized and unorganized trade among individuals who carry out activities in the field of trade without forming a legal entity.

The retail trade turnover in January-June 2023 reached 133 174.7 billion soums and increased by 106.9% compared to the same period in 2022, and the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 23 528.8 billion soums (growth rate – 116.8%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 109 645.9 billion soums (growth rate – 105.1%), including unorganized trade amounted to 13 659.5 billion soums (growth rate – 107.6%).

Compared to January-June 2022, significant growth rates in the period under review were noted in the city of Tashkent (111.7%), Tashkent (106.9%) and Fergana (106.6%) regions, in which there was an increase in the growth rate of retail trade.

Over the past five years (2019 - 2023), high growth rates of retail trade turnover were noted in 2021, this figure amounted to 109.0%. And the lowest was recorded in 2020, with a growth rate of 100.7%.

In January-June 2023, the growth rate of retail turnover amounted to 106.9%.

In the structure of retail trade turnover, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 26.5%, or 35 337.5 billion soums. The smallest share was fixed at the level of 1.7%, or 2 206.3 billion soums, which was noted in Syrdarya region. Compared to the corresponding period of 2022, in the period under review, an increase in growth rates in retail trade was noted in all regions.

The retail turnover of small businesses and private entrepreneurship, according to statistical calculations, in January-June 2023 amounted to 109 645.9 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 5.1%. The share of this sector in the republic in the retail trade turnover reached 82.3%.

In the structure of retail trade turnover, the volume of trade turnover of large enterprises increased by 16.8% and reached 23 528.8 billion soums, which is 17.7% of its total volume

The share of small business and private entrepreneurship, in comparison with other regions, was the largest in Surkhandarya (96.9%), Kashkadarya (94.9%) regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (95.7%). In the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of trade turnover of large enterprises amounted to 17.7% of total sales, their main share was observed in Tashkent city (41.9%), Samarkand (19.0%), Tashkent (13.9%) and Fergana (8.5%) regions.

The retail trade turnover per capita in the republic for JanuaryJune 2023 averaged 3679.0 thousand soums (it increased by 104.7% compared to the same period in 2022).

The highest volume, in comparison with other regions, was recorded in the city of Tashkent (11866.2 thousand soums), Navoi (4508.1 thousand soums) and Tashkent (4094.7 thousand soums) regions.

Unorganized trade turnover is also taken into account when forming indicators of domestic trade. This includes the volume of sales made by individuals in the dehkan (food) market, as well as in the markets for livestock, poultry and other animals. Unorganized trade includes agricultural products grown by individuals (farmers) on their own farms.

According to preliminary data from a survey of individuals, the turnover of unorganized trade in January-June 2023 amounted to 13 659.5 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, it increased by 107.6%. Including the turnover of trade in dehkan markets amounted to 6 643.1 billion soums (an increase of 117.2%), the turnover of trade in livestock markets was recorded at 7 016.5 billion soums (a decrease of 99.8%).

In January-June 2023, in all regions of the republic, a survey was conducted of individuals involved in the sale of agricultural products (grown in personal subsidiary farms), according to the results of which the turnover of this type of trade amounted to 6 643.1 billion soums. The high sale of fresh agricultural products reached 2 958.1 billion soums.

The sale of livestock of different ages reached 5 641.5 billion soums, sheep and goats – 1 138.4 billion soums, horses – 203.5 billion soums, birds – 33.1 billion soums.

As of 1 July 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the field of public catering amounted to 24 504 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises amounted to 177 units, and the number of small enterprises and micro-firms reached 24 327.

In January-June 2023, the turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to 6 626.7 billion soums and increased by 107.9% compared to the same period in 2022, of which 75.4% of the trade turnover falls on small businesses.

The highest volume, compared with other regions, was recorded in the city of Tashkent (12 649.1 billion soums), Khorezm (2 625.4 billion soums) and Jizzakh (2 431.8 billion soums) regions.

The turnover of wholesale and retail trade in motor vehicles and their accessories (except for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles) for January-June 2023 amounted to 34 275.7 billion soums and decreased by 102.6% compared to the same period in 2022, also, the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 14 003.0 billion soums (growth rate – 93.1%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 20 272.7 billion soums (growth rate – 110.4%)

According to preliminary data, in January-June 2023, the volume of wholesale trade reached 122 459.0 billion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 8.8%.

The turnover of wholesale trade of small businesses, according to statistical calculations, amounted to 88 713.0 billion soums and, compared to the corresponding period in 2022, increased by 104.7%. The share of this sector in the wholesale trade turnover in the republic amounted to 72.4%.

In January-June 2023, the highest growth rates of wholesale turnover of large enterprises, compared with January-June 2022, were observed in Syrdarya (3.6 times), Fergana (2.1 times) and Samarkand (1.9 times) regions. As of July 1, 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the field of wholesale trade amounted to 45 925 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises was 341, small enterprises and microfirms – 45 584.
