Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Presidential Decree “On measures to raise research activities in the field of ensuring public safety and the fight against crime to a qualitatively new level” was adopted.

The Decree established the Research Institute of Criminology of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Institute is a republican research institution specializing in scientific and expert support for criminological activities, part of the organizational structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and having the status of a legal entity.

The head of the Institute is appointed to the position by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Institute:
- conducts in-depth studies of the crime situation in the republic, systemic analysis and forecasting of crime trends;

- provides methodological assistance to the bodies of inquiry and preliminary investigation in identifying the factors of crimes that caused a public outcry, and develops measures to eliminate them;

- prepares highly qualified scientific personnel in the form of independent competition in the field of criminology.

The Institute carries out its tasks independently of any government bodies, public associations and officials; it is prohibited to interfere with its activities or influence it to change the information in the research report.
