The prospects for improving the qualifications of the Institute’s staff were discussed at MICA

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director of the International Institute of Central Asia (MICA) Javlon Vakhabov met with Michael Curtis, Executive Vice President for Strategic Development of the American Councils for International Education, a non-governmental non-profit organization specializing in the implementation of educational programs for teacher development and training English language, as well as expanding academic exchanges.

At the beginning of the conversation, the parties discussed educational programs implemented in Uzbekistan by the American Councils. As M. Curtis noted, the four-year English-Speaking Nation Program was recently completed, under which more than 18 thousand teachers in the country were trained in advanced methods of teaching English. According to him, 452 teachers received internationally recognized certificates in teaching English - TESOL, and 693 teachers became instructors and mentors, forming an expert network to support their colleagues across the country.

According to M. Curtis, this became possible thanks to the policy pursued by the Head of Uzbekistan for the development of human capital, which pays special attention to bringing the quality of education in line with advanced international standards.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation between MICA and the American Councils in matters of advanced training of scientific staff were also discussed. In particular, the possibilities of organizing special courses on teaching methods of writing scientific articles, selecting suitable academic journals and searching for research grants were considered. In addition, the parties discussed the participation of Institute experts in programs to improve the level of knowledge of the English language.
