Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the forty-seventh plenary meeting of the Senate, senators discussed the Law “On Amendments and Additions to the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan”.

In our country this year, a major political event took place - the National Referendum, as a result of which the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan in a new edition was adopted by the will of the people.

The law discussed at the plenary session was also developed on the basis of the provisions of the updated Constitution.

In accordance with the amendments made, the powers of the Constitutional Court are expanded, it is established that the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan will give an opinion on the compliance of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan with issues submitted for a referendum of the Republic of Uzbekistan,

It is provided that the Constitutional Court has the right of legislative initiative only on issues within its jurisdiction.

At the same time, the appointment of judges of the Constitutional Court for a period of ten years without the right of re-election is fixed.

As the senators noted, as a result of the adoption of this Law, the unconditional supremacy of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan and their uniform application will in fact be achieved.

After discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
