The permanent population of Uzbekistan reached 37.33 million people

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  As of 1 October 2024, the permanent population of Uzbekistan reached 37.33 million people, according to the State Statistics Committee.

The total population growth amounted to 755,600 people compared to the same period in 2023, or 2.1%.

During the reporting period, 693,900 children were born in Uzbekistan. Meanwhile, 131,670 people died since the beginning of 2024, resulting in a natural increase of 562,220 people or 20.3%.

The number of men in Uzbekistan stands at 18.81 million, while the number of women is 18.54 million.

Of this population, 19.05 million reside in urban areas and 18.31 million in rural areas.

The average age for men is 28.5 years, while for women it is 30 years.

According to the agency, 32% of Uzbekistan’s population comprises individuals younger than working age, 56.4% are of working age, and 11.6% are older than working age.

The number of children under the age of 4 is 4.37 million (2.26 million boys and 2.11 million girls), children aged 5 to 13 total 6.12 million (3.18 million boys and 2.94 million girls), and youth aged 14 to 30 comprise 9.64 million (4.94 million men and 4.7 million women).

The population aged 31 to 59 years totals 13.2 million (6.56 million men and 6.63 million women), while those aged over 60 amount to 3.47 million (1.57 million men and 1.89 million women).

Among men, the highest number is found in children under five years, totaling 2,262.7 thousand. Conversely, the lowest number among men is in the 60-64 age group, totaling 657.0 thousand. For women, the highest number is in girls under five years, totaling 2,108.1 thousand, while the lowest number is in the 60-64 age group, which is 736.0 thousand.

As of October 1, 2024, the population density across the country is 83.2 people per square kilometer, an increase of 1.7 people compared to the same period in 2023 (81.5 people per square kilometer on October 1, 2023).

In terms of regions, the highest population density is found in Tashkent city, with 6,909.6 people per square kilometer, followed by Andijan region with 801.3 and Fergana region with 610.0. The lowest densities are recorded in Navoi region at 9.8 and the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 12.1 people per square kilometer.

The largest permanent populations by region are in Samarkand region with 4,275.3 thousand people, Fergana region with 4,123.6 thousand, and Kashkadarya region with 3,618.3 thousand. The smallest populations are recorded in Syrdarya region at 926.7 thousand, Navoi region at 1,090.0 thousand, and Jizzakh region at 1,530.3 thousand.

The highest proportion of the permanent population is found in Samarkand region at 11.4%, Fergana region at 11.0%, Kashkadarya region at 9.7%, Andijan region at 9.2%, and Namangan region at 8.3%.

The lowest proportions of the permanent population are in Syrdarya region at 2.5%, Navoi region at 2.9%, Jizzakh region at 4.1%, Khorezm region at 5.4%, and the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 5.4%.

The number of live births from January to September 2024 amounted to 693.9 thousand, including 360.0 thousand boys and 333.9 thousand girls. The number of births in urban areas reached 343.4 thousand, while in rural areas it was 350.5 thousand.

When analyzing the number of births from January to September 2024, the following distribution was noted: 97.7% for single births, 2.2% for twins, and 0.1% for triplets or more.

Considering the ages of fathers of infants born from January to September 2024, 10.8% were under 25 years, 82.4% were aged 25-39, and 6.8% were 40 years or older. Additionally, for mothers of newborns, 39.5% were under 25 years, 59.3% were aged 25-39, and 1.2% were 40 years or older.

The highest birth rate by region is in Surkhandarya region at 29.0 per mille, Kashkadarya region at 27.8 per mille, and Namangan region at 26.7 per mille. The lowest rates are recorded in the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 20.6 per mille, Bukhara region at 22.1 per mille, and Khorezm region at 22.3 per mille.

The highest proportion of births is in Samarkand region at 12.0%, Fergana region at 11.2%, Kashkadarya region at 10.8%, Andijan region at 9.3%, and Surkhandarya region at 9.1%.

The birth rate is relatively low in Syrdarya region at 2.4%, Navoi region at 2.8%, Jizzakh region at 4.2%, the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 4.5%, and Khorezm region at 4.8%.

The total number of deaths from January to September 2024 amounted to 131.7 thousand, including 72.3 thousand men and 59.4 thousand women. In urban settlements, these figures were 74.5 thousand, and in rural areas, they were 57.2 thousand.

Among the registered deaths from January to September 2024, 57.2% were due to circulatory system diseases, 9.5% from neoplasms, 6.5% from respiratory diseases, 5.8% from accidents, poisonings, and injuries, 4.0% from digestive system diseases, 1.2% from infectious and parasitic diseases, and 15.8% from other diseases.

By region, the highest mortality rates were recorded in Tashkent city at 5.5 per mille, Tashkent region at 5.4 per mille, while the lowest rate was 4.2 per mille in Jizzakh region.

The highest proportion of deaths was noted in Samarkand region at 10.9%, Fergana region at 10.4%, Tashkent city at 9.6%, Tashkent region at 9.4%, and Andijan region at 9.3%.

The proportion of deaths is relatively low in Syrdarya region at 2.5%, Navoi region at 2.8%, Jizzakh region at 3.6%, Khorezm region at 5.2%, and Bukhara region at 5.3%.

The number of registered marriages from January to September 2024 amounted to 179.4 thousand units, which is a decrease of 5.1 thousand units compared to the same period last year. Compared to the same period in 2020, it also decreased by 4.6 thousand units.

In January to September 2024, the number of registered marriages was 179.4 thousand units, of which 93.7 thousand, or 52.2%, were in urban areas and 85.7 thousand, or 47.8%, in rural areas.

In January to September 2024, the average age of women entering into marriage was 22.5 years, while the average age of men was 27.4 years. The highest proportion of registered marriages was among women under 25 years, accounting for 80.0% of all marriages.

The highest marriage rates by region were recorded at 7.2 per mille in Tashkent city, 7.0 per mille in Navoi region, while the lowest rates were 5.9 per mille in Andijan region and 6.1 per mille in Namangan and Tashkent regions.

The highest percentage of marriages was noted in Samarkand region at 11.4%, Fergana region at 10.8%, Kashkadarya region at 10.0%, Tashkent city at 9.2%, and Andijan region at 8.4%.

The proportion of marriages is relatively low in Syrdarya region at 2.6%, Navoi region at 3.2%, Jizzakh region at 4.2%, the Republic of Karakalpakstan at 5.3%, and Bukhara region at 5.5%.

In January to September 2024, the number of divorces amounted to 34.0 thousand units, which has significantly increased over the past four years. Compared to 2020, the number has risen by 14.0 thousand units, or by 1.7 times.
