Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A year after the start of accepting applications from candidates, the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee summed up the interim results of the volunteer recruitment campaign. More than 960 thousand people expressed their desire to become volunteer helpers of the Winter Olympic Games.

On the Internet portal opened for these purposes, since 5 December 2019, over 1.22 million users have registered. The number of visits to the site has exceeded 33 million. According to representatives of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee, applications for participation in the volunteer program have already been submitted from 168 countries. 96 percent of potential candidates are people under the age of 35. 85% of applicants are students. It is noteworthy that over 2 thousand people with disabilities expressed their desire to work as volunteers.

Applications will continue until 30 June 2021. Then the Organizing Committee will select applicants. In total, 27,000 volunteers will be recruited to help host the Olympic Games, and another 12,000 will be involved in the Paralympic Games.

Successful candidates will have to undergo training in accordance with the specialty that they will be determined by the Organizing Committee. Those applicants who will not be able to work directly at the Olympic Games may be given a second chance - some of them will receive an invitation to try their hand as city volunteers.
