Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the fifty-first plenary meeting of the Senate, the Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was discussed.

The country is carrying out large-scale work on the development and implementation of advanced scientific and technical achievements and innovations in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, taking into account international standards.

In order to create additional conditions for manufacturers of medicines, this Law amends the Law “On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities”, envisaging the abolition of the procedure for state registration of medicines (substances).

At the same time, amendments are being made to the laws “On the Protection of Citizens’ Health” and “On Medicines and Pharmaceutical Activities”, which vest the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the authority to approve the procedure for classifying medicines as prescription or over-the-counter, as well as introducing a requirement to indicate information about medicines sold without a prescription or with a doctor's prescription, in the instructions for their medical use and in the State Register of medicines, medical devices and medical equipment approved for use in medical practice.

In addition, in order to expand the volume of production of import-substituting chemical products, an amendment is being made to the Law “On Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances”, granting legal entities the right to produce and manufacture certain precursors determined by the Cabinet of Ministers within the framework of List IV, on the basis of appropriate licenses.

The senators emphasized that the Law serves to increase the level of awareness of the population and business entities about medicines approved for use in medical practice, as well as to create conditions for attracting investors and increasing the production of chemical products.

At the end of the discussion, the Law was approved by the senators.
