The largest Malaysian auto concern intends to cooperate with Uzavtosanoat

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov held a meeting with the head of the Department for the Development of New Markets and Strategy of the Malaysian company Proton (Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd - Proton) Sanjay Vasudevan, Dunyo news agency reported.

Proton Automobile Company was founded in 1983 by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. The first car of the company was released in 1985. Over the past 37 years, the company has produced 28 different models and exported about 5 million cars to 73 countries around the world.

During the meeting, the Malaysian side was provided with detailed information on the large-scale economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, including the activities of Uzavtosanoat JSC and its enterprises, models and volumes of cars produced, opportunities for the production of electric vehicles in the republic, as well as conditions created for foreign investors in automotive industry.

In turn, Sanjay Vasudevan stressed that the automotive industry of Uzbekistan is considered one of the developed sectors of the national economy and the country is the largest producer in the region. He noted that the Malaysian company is interested in cooperation with Uzavtosanoat JSC, since Uzbekistan plays an important role as a hub for the export of automotive products to neighboring countries.

In this regard, the Malaysian side, as a first step in the framework of cooperation, expressed its readiness to establish the production of the Proton Saga sedan (belongs to class B), with the possibility of increasing the number of models produced in the future, as well as interest in implementing a project for the production of electric vehicles in Uzbekistan .

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to conduct online negotiations between the management of the Malaysian company Proton and Uzavtosanoat JSC to discuss possible cooperation on the implementation of this project.
