The implementation of “road maps” aimed at ensuring the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level with the Republic of Korea was discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 November 2023, a regular meeting of the Senate Commission of the Oliy Majlis on cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was held in the upper house of parliament. The meeting was chaired by the Chairperson of the Senate, Chairperson of the Commission Tanzila Narbaeva.

During the event, the progress in the implementation of practical action plans (“road maps”) approved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further deepen the special strategic partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea” was discussed.

It was noted at the meeting that within the framework of specific agreements reached at the highest level with the Republic of Korea, certain work had been carried out.

In particular, this year the project “Expansion of optical fiber production” worth US$7 million was launched in Jizzakh region, which made it possible to produce 85 thousand kilometers of fiber-optic cable products per year. A US$7 million vocational training center has been launched in Ferghana region. Based on the address list, 223 unemployed persons, mainly young people and women, are being trained. A similar project was launched in Khorezm region.

The Government of the Republic of Korea also approved the allocation of US$74 million for the project “Equipping territorial medical institutions with medical equipment.” As part of the project, it is planned to bring 35 types of 8455 medical equipment from the Republic of Korea.

In addition, an investment project worth US$5.6 million “Green Recovery” is being implemented in the Republic of Karakalpakstan to overcome the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis. A representative office of the Global Green Growth Institute (Korea) has opened in Uzbekistan. The Institute has begun work on financing the green restoration of the Aral Sea region.

In general, cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea is steadily developing in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

At the same time, during the event, attention was drawn to some tasks of the road maps that are not being completed in a timely manner, and the reasons for the lag were carefully analyzed. In particular, specific proposals were made and deadlines were set to increase the responsibility of heads of ministries and departments who irresponsibly approached the implementation of road maps, timely and high-quality provision of certain tasks, and elimination of shortcomings.

At the end of the meeting, taking into account the comments and suggestions made, the Commission made a corresponding decision.
