The historical monuments of Samarkand made a great impression on the French delegation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - At the end of the program of his official visit to our country, President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, accompanied by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, got acquainted with the historical monuments of the city of Samarkand.

First, the heads of state visited the observatory and museum of Mirzo Ulugbek.

Muhammad Taragay Mirzo Ulugbek was the beloved grandson of Amir Temur and the successor of his work. As a ruler and scientist, he patronized the development of science and culture and paid great attention to construction. Having built an observatory unique for the Middle Ages, he studied the movement of celestial bodies with high accuracy.

His book “New Astronomical Tables” served for many years as an important textbook on astronomy, well known in Europe, including France.

Thus, the works of Mirzo Ulugbek were the object of study by the French astronomer Joseph-Nicolas Delisle, who translated “Zij” into Latin. In 1739, Delisle gave a presentation on the astronomical tables of our great ancestor. The text of this report has been preserved.

This historical evidence shows how deep the bonds between our peoples are.

The guests examined objects, books, manuscripts and the original quadrant of Mirzo Ulugbek.

The presidents visited the mausoleum of Amir Temur.

The distinguished guest was told about the life, military leadership, and creative deeds of the great Sahibkiran.

Amir Temur is a unique personality who founded the largest state in his time in the region from India to Europe. Military campaigns and diplomacy of Sahibkiran also influenced the life of distant countries. European monarchs recognized the state of Amir Temur and sought to establish relations with him. In particular, the French king Charles VI sent a letter to Amir Temur.

That is why all over the world there is great interest in the personality of Amir Temur and the legacy of the Temurids. In particular, in 1988, the Association of Researchers of the History and Culture of the Temurids was created in France. Its former president, Professor Lucien Keren, was awarded the Shukhrat medal of Uzbekistan for many years of research on Amir Temur and the Temurid era, as well as for his great contribution to the rapprochement of the peoples of France and Uzbekistan.

In 1996, the exhibition “The Flourishing of Science, Culture and Enlightenment in the Timurid Era” was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Last year, as part of the visit of the head of our state to France, the exhibition “Treasures of the Oases of Uzbekistan. At the crossroads of caravan routes,” which became a landmark event. A special place in its exhibition was given to the heritage of the Timurids.

The heads of state also visited the Registan complex, the ensemble of which consists of the Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor and Tillakori madrassas. These monuments, built by Mirzo Ulugbek and Yalangtushbiy, have attracted researchers for centuries and served as a school for hundreds of scientists. With its symmetry and architectural appearance, Registan is deservedly the “calling card” of Samarkand.

The guests were told about the architectural traditions and techniques used in the construction of the madrasah, the meaning of ornaments and inscriptions.

Then the Presidents visited Shahi Zinda. This complex consists of mausoleums of the associate Kusama ibn Abbas and other figures. The historical, cultural and artistic value of the complex is that it gives an idea of the development of architecture and decorative art over several centuries. Shahi Zinda was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.

The guests’ attention was drawn to the history of the complex’s gates and mausoleums; they appreciated the elegance of the patterns.

In general, the historical monuments of Samarkand made a great impression on the guests.
