The heads of the SCO energy departments discussed plans to develop cooperation in Astana

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 4 October 2023, in the capital of Kazakhstan, under the chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Energy Forum of the participating countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held as part of Kazakhstan Energy Week - 2023 / XV Eurasian Forum KAZENERGY. The forum was attended by member states, observers and dialogue partners of the SCO, including: Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Satkaliev Almasadam, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Sohail Khan, First Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akhmedhojaev Azim, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Nikolay Shulginov , Minister of Energy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Ko Ko Lwin, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus Olga Prudnikova, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan Kholmuhamadzoda Sorboni, as well as the representative of the Ministry of Energy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Salman Qayum Khan.

Speaking at the forum, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan recalled that, on the initiative of President of the Kazakhstan “Strategy for the development of energy cooperation of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization until 2030” was developed. The document plans to expand the SCO agenda in the most promising areas for interaction in the energy sector in the medium term, which will take into account modern realities.

In addition, the heads of energy departments discussed strategic approaches to the development of energy cooperation, promoting the development of new approaches and developing specific solutions aimed at ensuring the sustainability and development of the energy sector of the SCO member states, observer states and dialogue partner countries.

The Minister of Energy also took part in the Plenary session “Energy of Opportunity: from uncertainty to sustainability” as part of Kazakhstan Energy Week - 2023 / XV KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a dynamically developing international organization covering about 45% of the world population. It has a significant role in the development of international energy dialogue, bringing together some of the largest consumers and producers of energy resources in the world. The SCO member states collectively possess about 25% of the world’s oil reserves, more than 50% of gas reserves, 35% of coal and about half of the world’s known uranium reserves.
