“There is a new wave of the pandemic. I think that not everyone has done the fourth dose of the vaccine yet, and we also have "omicron" right now, a strain that is much more difficult to control. The vaccine, as shown by Israeli data, reduces the likelihood of hospitalization or death from COVID-19,” Bourla said.

He also noted that he does not make recommendations to governments.

“I give them data, and they already make recommendations. Here in Israel, there is a recommendation for a fourth dose of the vaccine, and people don't have to follow the social distancing requirements that we used to have right now," he said.
