The government of Kazakhstan resigns in connection with the election of a new composition of the Mazhilis

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Kazakhstan resigned in connection with the election of a new composition of the Mazhilis (lower house of parliament).

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree instructing the government to perform its duties until the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers is approved. The document is published on his website.

Early elections to the Mazhilis, which includes 98 deputies, were held on 19 March. They were carried out according to a mixed electoral system: 70% of the deputies (69 people) were elected from party lists, 30% (29 people) from single-mandate constituencies. The ruling Amanat party won 53.9% of the vote, which corresponds to 40 mandates that the party has already distributed. Tokayev noted that elections are required as part of constitutional reform.
