Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 March, the exhibition “Heritage in Stitches: A Journey through Embroidery and Sewing Traditions of Uzbekistan” started in Baku (Azerbaijan).

The exhibition features more than 148 pieces of decorative and applied art, including rare chapans, sewing jewelry and suzani samples from various Uzbek regions such as Tashkent, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz, Nurata and Bukhara.

The exhibition also presents jewelry from Samarkand, Bukhara and Karakalpakstan.

These projects allow international audiences to immerse themselves in the rich cultural and historical heritage of Uzbekistan.

The exhibition will run from 17 March to 1 July 2024.

Assistant to the President of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva noted that yesterday the exhibition “Heritage in Stitches: A Journey through Embroidery and Sewing Traditions of Uzbekistan” opened at the Heydar Aliyev Center in the capital of Azerbaijan, where more than 140 exhibits of decorative and applied arts were presented.

Suzani embroidery, created by craftswomen, requires months of hard work. Each embroidered flower and design has special meanings and messages, she added.

“We hope that our traditional gold-embroidered chapans, colorful suzanis and silver jewelry with precious stones will make a lasting impression on visitors,” said Saida Mirziyoyeva.

“I would like to express my gratitude from the bottom of my heart to the museum specialists and everyone who took part in organizing this exhibition,” she emphasized.
