The European Commission presents a new program for the fight against terrorism in the EU.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The European Commission presented a new program for the fight against terrorism in the EU.

The program is aimed at providing assistance to member countries and includes four areas of countering terrorist threats:

- forecasting - considers the conduct of strategic intelligence and systematic assessment of threats as an integral part of the political decision-making process;

- prevention of attacks - it is planned, first of all, within the framework of countering radicalization (in prisons, on the Internet) and the consistent reintegration of prisoners;

- protection – envisages the reduction of the physical vulnerability of public and religious places, as well as effective measures to control the external borders of the EU and issue permits for the acquisition of weapons in the member states;

- improving the efficiency of the response - it is planned by strengthening the interaction between the security forces and the structures involved.

The Program stipulates targeted cooperation with non-EU countries:

a) in the field of illegal circulation of firearms (with the Western Balkan countries, Ukraine and Moldova);

b) in matters of money laundering and terrorist financing, the exchange of personal data (with the countries of the southern neighborhood - North Africa and the Middle East);

c) in exchange of experience and information (with international organizations, key strategic partners of the USA, Canada and New Zealand, with African countries and regions of Asia).

The programmatic measures build on the previously adopted measures to combat terrorism in the European Union. At the same time, the recent attacks in France and Austria prompted the European Commission to further expand its activities in this area, especially in terms of cooperation between countries in this area.

On the whole, the developed document offers a systematic and consistent approach to countering terrorism and extremism. At the same time, the interaction of countries is considered as the basis for a successful countering terrorism on the European continent. One of the features of the new EU strategy to prevent attacks is the emphasis on improving the effectiveness of countering radicalization in prisons.
