The cost of upgrading the Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway line is US$6.3 million

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The cost of modernizing the Afghan railway line from Hairatan to Mazar-i-Sharif is estimated at US$6.3 million.

The project is scheduled to be completed in the next three months. This was reported by TOLONews with reference to the Afghan Railways Administration (ARA).

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari company takes part in this project. The Uzbek company and ARA entered into an agreement.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari sent 120 employees to Afghanistan. Repair work started on 21 February.

Modernizing the railway will help Uzbekistan and Afghanistan strengthen trade and economic ties.

The Hairatan-Mazar-i-Sharif railway line was built in 2011. The project was financed by the Asian Development Bank. The cost of the project was US$129 million.
