The consolidated CPI of Uzbekistan amounted to 0.8% in January

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January 2023, the consolidated CPI of Uzbekistan compared to the previous month amounted to 0.8%. In annual terms (by January of the previous year), this indicator reached 12.2%.

In January 2023 the CPI for goods for the month amounted to 0.9%, services – 0.7%. CPI for January 2023 to January 2022 for goods was at the level of 13.3% and services – 8,4%.

CPI for food products for the month amounted to 1.0% and non-food products –0.6%, as well as services – 0.7%.

CPI for food products by January 2022 amounted to 15.4% and non-food products – 10.9%, as well as services – 8.4%.

In January 2023, the contribution of price changes for food products to the growth of the consolidated CPI for the month amounted to 0.44 p.p. They accounted for about 53.7% of the total impact of observed goods and services. The share of the contribution of non food products amounted to 26.8% of the total impact (contribution 0.22 p.p). The contribution of price changes for services was the smallest among the three main groups and reached 0.16 p.p. (19.5%).

The consolidated CPI in annual terms for January 2023 was formed under the influence of price changes for food products (contribution +6.51 p.p.), non-food products (+3.75 p.p.) and services (+1.93 p.p.). These contributions were in the ratio of 53.4%, 30.8% and 15.8%.

In January 2023, short term monthly CPI was lower than in January 2022 for all major sections except for sections VII "Transport” (100.7% vs 99.6%) and XII ."Insurance and financial services" (100.1 vs 100.0%). CPI in sections III “Clothing and Footwear”, X “Educational Services”, and XIII “Household goods and services, other goods and services" in January 2023 and 2022 were equivalent.

In January 2023, the CPI below 100 0 was recorded in the groups "Oils and fats" (99.6%) and "Sugar, confectionery and desserts" (99.5%).

In addition, the CPI for the month in January 2023 was lower than in January last year in the groups "Cereals and cereals" (100.2% vs 100.9%),”Fish and other seafood" (100.1% vs 100.9%), “Fruits and nuts” (100.9% vs 103.1%), “Prepared foods and other food products” (100.1% vs 100.6%),“Soft drinks” (100.1% vs 100.5%).

In January 2023 the annualized CPI for fruits and nuts is fixed at 92.3%. The same indicator for vegetables, tubers and legumes reached 114.9%.

CPI by January 2022 for cereals and cereals amounted to 130.5%, sugar, confectionery and desserts – 123.1%, milk, other dairy products and eggs – 119.3%, soft drinks – 112.8. Price indices in other groups did not exceed the value of the consolidated CPI.

The seasonal factor had a decisive influence on the current short term CPI for January of this year for the groups "Fruits and nuts" and "Vegetables, tubers, and legumes". The price index for the month for hese groups amounted to 100.9% and 107.7% respectively.

In January 2023 the long term CPI by January 2022 for the “Fruits and Nuts” group was 92.3%, In the group "Vegetables, tubers, and legumes", this figure reached 114.9%.

The seasonal factor affected both the current short-term CPI in section I Food and non-alcoholic beverages, and the consolidated CPI. Due to the growth in prices for fruits and vegetables, the consolidated CPI for the month increased by 0.36 p.p.

The limiting factor was the decline in prices for oil and fat products, as well as in the Sugar, Confectionery and Desserts group, which allowed the consolidated CPI to decrease by 0.02 p.p. in total.

Among the commodity groups of section I “Food and non alcoholic beverages”, the contribution to the growth of the consolidated CPI for January 2023 compared to January 2022 of price changes for grain crops and cereal products reached 2.6 p.p.

The restraining factor was the decline in fruit and nut prices, which allowed the composite CPI to drop by 0.3 p.p.

Prices in section IV ."Housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" in January of this year did not change significantly.

Short term CPI for materials for the maintenance and repair of residential premises for the specified month amounted to only 100.2%. At the same time, the range of short term price indices for goods included in the group ranged from 99.9% (cement) to 100.7% (mixers, valves and parts for them).

Prices for the main types of communal services remained stable throughout the month.

The long term CPI in annual terms for Section IV for January 2023 was 105.0%.

In January of this year, the CPI for household furniture fluctuated slightly in the range from 100.2% to 100.8%.

The CPI for major household appliances ranged from 99.9% (large kitchen appliances) to 100.7% (small cooking appliances). CPI for kitchen utensils and household items for the month amounted to 100.4%.

The CPI range for various types of tools and devices used in everyday life and gardening in January of this year ranged from 100.3% (non-motorized tools) to 100.7% (electric batteries).

CPI for household detergents and cleaning products for the month was at the level of 100.7% for household services and personal services 100.4%.

CPI for dental preventive services in January of this year for the month amounted to 102.9% for diagnostic imaging services and medical laboratories – 101.1%, medicines – 100.9%.

Hospital services have risen in price even less significantly and the CPI for them has reached only 100.1%.

In January 2023 a decrease in gasoline prices was noted in a number of regions. The CPI for the whole country for this period amounted to 99.9%.

The price situation in the field of passenger rail transport services in January 2023 was stable CPI for passenger road transport services increased slightly over the month and reached 100.3%.

The upper limit of price fluctuations for air passenger transport services amounted to 106.1 which was due both to the influence of the volatility of the national currency and the opening of air services with China, which were terminated at the beginning of the pandemic. Tariffs in this direction were revised taking into account the current situation in the aviation services market, which affected the average price level.

The CPI for information and communication equipment in January of this year amounted to 100.1%, which is lower than in the same month of 2020-2022.

The price index for equipment for information processing was at the level of 100.2% for receiving, recording and reproducing sound and images 100.3%. Prices for mobile telephone equipment remained at the level of the previous month.

Of the services in the field of informatization in January of this year, an increase in prices was recorded only for complex telecommunications services, where the CPI amounted to 100.9%. Taking into account the share of this type of service, as well as the stability of prices for other services observed in this area, the CPI for the month was formed at around 100.0%.

CPI in section IX "Recration, sports and culture" in January 2023 compared to the previous month amounted to 101.1%. Traditionally for January, it was formed under the influence of price changes for newspapers, magazines and other periodicals in circulation, the prices for which, taking into account changes in costs, are reviewed at the beginning of each year. In particular, the average CPI for newspapers observed in the republic reached 119.5%, magazines – 119.3%.

The average price level in the educational services market for the first month of 2023 increased slightly. Short term CPI in section X reached only 100.2%.

The cost of attending preschool educational institutions by children, as well as tuition fees in the country's universities on a contract basis, did not change over the month.

In a number of regions, a change in prices for the services of tutors was noted, which formed the average CPI for this type of service in the republic at the level of 101.0%.

In addition, there was a slight increase in tuition fees for educational courses, where the CPI amounted to 100.2%.

During 2020 2022, changed prices for vouchers to sanatoriums and rest houses came into force annually in January In January 2023 the average CPI for them in the republic was 118.6%.

In January of this year, the price situation in the observed insurance services market remained stable.

A slight increase in prices among financial services was noted only for money transfer services through banks CPI for this type of service for the month amounted to 100.4%. This is due to fluctuations in the exchange rate of the national currency against the US dollar, and, as a result, a change in commission fees for transferring funds in foreign currency

CPI for the month for electrical appliances for personal use amounted to 100.1%, other appliances – 100.9%. A similar indicator for hairdressers and personal service establishments was at the level of 101.6%.

Short-term CPI for goods and services included in this group in January of this year were in the range of 100.1-100.9%. At the same time, prices for certain types of goods (women's bags, school bags, satchels and backpacks) remained at the level of December last year.

In January 2023, an increase in prices in the group of other services was recorded only for photocopying services. The short-term CPI for this type of service amounted to 101.5%.

The contribution of price changes for food and non-alcoholic beverages to the growth of the short-term consolidated CPI in January of this year amounted to 0.44 p.p. The share of goods in this section accounted for about 63.7% of the total impact of observed goods and services.

As for the long-term consolidated CPI compared to January of the previous year, the share of the influence of section I reached 49.6%. Due to changes in prices in this section, the consolidated indicator in annual terms increased by 6.05 p.p.
