The consolidated CPI for June amounted to 99.7%,

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In June 2023, the consolidated CPI for the month amounted to 99.7%, by December 2022 – 103.5%. The average monthly increase in the CPI for January-June of the current year reached 0.6%, the Statistics Agency said.

In annual terms (as compared to June of the previous year), the consolidated CPI was fixed at 109.0%.

In June 2023, the CPI for goods for the month was 99.6%, services – 100.2%. Since the beginning of the current year, this indicator for goods has reached 103.6%, services – 102.9%. In annual terms, it was formed, respectively, at the levels of 109.4% and 108.0%.

The entire set of goods and services for monitoring price changes, consisting of 510 items, is divided into three large groups.

The short-term CPI for food products in June of this year amounted to 98.9%, non-food products – 100.4%, paid services – 100.2%. CPI for the first half of this year for food products reached 104.1%, non-food products – 103.1%, paid services – 102.9%. CPI in annual terms for food and non-food products was at the level of 110.5% and 107.9%, for services it was fixed at 108.0%.

The CPI for food products in June 2023 is fixed at below 100.0%. To a large extent, this is due to the influence of the seasonal factor and, as a result, a decrease in prices for certain types of fruits and vegetables.

A similar situation developed in June of previous years, with the exception of last year, when the CPI growth for food products reached the level of 1.1%. This situation in 2022 was associated with an increase in prices for grain crops, cereals, flour, meat, oil and fat products, eggs, and sugar. This, despite the seasonal decline in prices for fruits and vegetables, did not allow the short-term CPI for the group to fall below 100.0%.

Excluding changes in prices for fruits and vegetables, the short-term consolidated CPI for June 2023 was 100.5%. By the level of December 2022, this indicator is fixed at around 103.5%, June 2022 – 109.6%.

In June 2023, due to a decrease in food prices, the consolidated CPI for the month fell by 0.47 p.p.

Price changes for non-food products and paid services to the population increased the total indicator by 0.18 p.p. in total.

The contribution of price changes for food products to the growth of the consolidated CPI for the first half of 2023 amounted to 1.72 p.p. They accounted for about 49.9% of the total impact of observed goods and services (against 57.7% a year earlier). The share of the contribution of non-food products amounted to 30.7% of the total impact (contribution +1.06 p.p.). The contribution of price changes for services was the smallest among the three main groups and reached 0.67 p.p. (19.4%). In the structure of the consolidated CPI in annual terms, food products accounted for 49.5%, non-food products – 30.1%, services – 20.4% of the total impact.

In June 2023, the monthly short-term CPI was lower than the same indicator for June last year in all sections except sections II. “Alcoholic drinks, tobacco products”, XI. “Restaurants and hotel services” and XII. “Insurance and financial services”.

With the exception of sections II. “Alcoholic drinks, tobacco products” and XI. “Restaurants and hotel services”, CPI in all other sections for January-June 2023 was lower than the same indicator of the previous year.

The lowest annual CPI in June 2023 was recorded for goods and services in the field of information and communications (99.4%), education (102.8%), insurance and finance (104.3%).

Short-term CPI below 100.0% in June of this year was recorded in the groups "Oils and fats" (98.7%), "Fruits and nuts" (97.7%), "Vegetables, tubers and legumes" (86.2%).

In two groups, the short-term CPI for June of this year was significantly lower than last year. Thus, the CPI for cereals and cereals in June 2023 for the month amounted to 100.6% (against 109.3% in June last year), for sugar, confectionery and desserts – 100.7% (against 107.6% in June 2022).

The average level of prices for oil and fat products in June of this year, as a month earlier, was lower than at the end of 2022. The CPI for the Oils and Fats group for the first half of 2023 was 93.9%.

The CPI for vegetables, tubers and legumes for January-June of the current year was 4.2 points below the threshold of 100.0%.

CPI in annual terms for June 2023 was lower than the same indicator for June last year in all groups, with the exception of the “Meat products” and “Milk, other dairy products and eggs” groups. At the same time, the average price level for fruits and nuts, as well as for oils and fats, remained lower in June this year than in June 2022.

In June of this year, there was a decrease in prices for a number of vegetables. The range of CPI for goods with price reductions ranged from 52.7% (bell peppers) to 98.5% (apples). Compared to December 2022, prices for cucumbers decreased most significantly among the observed types of fruit and vegetable products. Eggplant became the commodity with the lowest CPI in annual terms.

In total, due to lower prices for vegetables, tubers and legumes, fruits and nuts, oils and fats, milk, dairy products and eggs, the short-term consolidated CPI for June of this year fell by 0.74 p.p. The inflationary factor was the rise in prices in the groups “Cereals and cereals”, “Meat products”, “Sugar, confectionery and desserts”, “Food products and other food products”, “Soft drinks”, due to which the consolidated indicator became higher by 0.20 p.p. In the structure of the growth of the consolidated CPI for the first half of 2023, a significant contribution belongs to meat products, cereals and cereals, fruits and nuts, as well as sugar, confectionery and desserts (total contribution +1.57 p.p.). The decline in prices for oil and fat products, as well as for vegetables, tubers and legumes led to a decrease in the consolidated CPI by 0.35 p.p.

In June this year, fluctuations in the short-term CPI in Section III. “Clothes and shoes” ranged from 99.5% (trousers and jeans for women) to 101.6% (t-shirts for girls).

Section IV. “Housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” the tariff situation for the main types of utilities in June this year was stable. Against this background, the amount of rent for housing increased slightly (100.2%), and the maintenance, repair and protection of residential premises became more expensive by an average of 0.5%. At the same time, the CPI for the services of specialists in repair work reached 101.2% over the month, building materials for the maintenance and repair of residential premises – 100.3%.

In June of this year, fluctuations in the short-term CPI in section V. "Household items, household appliances and routine housing maintenance" ranged from 98.9% (washing machines) to 101.5% (screwdrivers, pliers, etc.).

Range of fluctuations in the short-term CPI for goods in section VI. "Healthcare", in June of this year, ranged from 99.2% (antiseptics) to 101.4% (medical diagnostic products). CPI for the month below the 100.0% mark was recorded for medical masks and gloves, dressings (99.8%), as well as for syringes (99.9%).

In June 2023, gasoline prices increased in all regions. CPI for this type of fuel for the month on average in the republic amounted to 102.2%. The short-term CPI for gas fuel for vehicles in June of this year amounted to 100.1%, including propane – 100.7%, methane – 99.95%. In three regions of the republic, a decrease in tuition fees for driver training courses was noted. On average in the republic, the short-term CPI for this type of service was at the level of 98.6%. Air and rail passenger transport services became cheaper in June, due to the strengthening of the national currency. The CPI for passenger air transportation services in the observed directions was fixed at 99.4%, for rail transport services – 99.9%, road transport – 100.3%.

The short-term CPI for information and communication equipment in June this year was fixed at around 99.9%. The fluctuation range of the short-term CPI for goods included in the group in June of this year ranged from 99.5% (mobile telephone equipment) to 100.8% (peripheral equipment and its consumable components).

Of services in the field of informatization in June of this year, price changes were recorded for services for the repair of information and communication equipment, where the short-term CPI reached 101.2%, as well as for mobile communications services, where this figure was 97.9%.

During June 2023, price reductions in Section IX. “Recreation, sports and culture” was marked on school notebooks (CPI 99.8%), A4 paper (99.6%), photography and video recording (99.9%). The increase in prices occurred for cinema and theater services (104.8%), services related to the organization and holding of celebrations, as well as for park services (102.7%). Price fluctuations for other types of services were less significant.

The level of prices for the services of state preschool educational institutions, as well as in the field of higher education, did not change in June of this year.

Public catering services in June this year rose in price in all regions. Shortterm CPI in this area for the month amounted to 103.4%. Hotel services have risen in price in five regions of the republic (within 1.2-9.0%), recreation centers have maintained price stability.

In June of this year, the price situation in the observed insurance services market remained stable. Among financial services, price changes were noted for certain types of services of banking institutions, where the short-term CPI amounted to 100.9%, as well as for money transfer services through banks (100.4%) and electronic payment systems (104.6%).

In June this year, the fluctuation range of short-term CPI for goods and services included in the group ranged from 99.7% (toothbrushes) to 101.6% (toilet paper).

The level of short-term CPI for goods and services of this group in June of this year ranged from 99.8% (school bags, including briefcases, backpacks) to 101.0% (suitcases and travel bags).

Among other services, an increase in prices in June this year was noted for photocopying services (100.6%) and funeral services (100.5%).

The decrease in the average level of prices for food and nonalcoholic beverages in June of this year led to a decrease in the shortterm consolidated CPI by 0.54 p. p. A significant contribution to the growth of the consolidated indicator for the month was made by changes in prices for restaurant and hotel services (+0.06 p.p.), as well as for goods and services in the transport sector (+0.04 p.p.). Due to the increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, the consolidated CPI as a whole for the first half of 2023 increased by 1.51 p.p. equipment and routine maintenance of housing added another 1.13 p.p. to it. The influence of other sections was less significant.

Due to the growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, the consolidated CPI for June 2023 in annual terms increased by 3.94 p.p., with a total increase of 9.03 p.p. Thus, this section accounted for 43.6% of the total impact of observed goods and services. The total contribution of price changes in other sections amounted to 5.09 p.p., or 56.4%.
