Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the fifty-third plenary meeting of the Senate, the issue of implementing measures for comprehensive socio-economic development and ensuring employment of the population of the Republic of Karakalpakstan was considered.

The work on the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, supporting entrepreneurship, increasing the investment attractiveness of the region, improving the well-being of the population and further tasks was analyzed.

Large-scale projects are being implemented in Karakalpakstan to ensure employment, efficient use of land and water resources, creation of a favorable agribusiness environment, development of human capital, and improvement of the social protection system.

In this, undoubtedly, a special role is played by the attention paid by the President in recent years to overcoming socio-economic and environmental problems, a number of decrees and resolutions adopted for the development of the region. The Senate of the Oliy Majlis exercises effective parliamentary control over their implementation.

It was noted that in accordance with the program approved by the decree of the head of state from 11 November  “On measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2020-2023”, 1,359 investment projects were launched in 2020-2023 with a total cost of 11.2 trillion soums, 16,060 new jobs were created.

The Presidential Decree from 29 July 2021 “On measures to implement the special resolution of the UN General Assembly of 18 May 2021 “On declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovation and technology” approved a “Road Map”, including 71 measures for the widespread introduction of resource-saving, modern innovative technologies , conducting scientific research and introducing innovative developments in the economic sectors of the Aral Sea region for 2021-2024, as well as a list of 65 priority innovative projects.

Some 65 out of 71 Road Map activities and 53 out of 65 priority innovation projects have been completed.

In addition, by the Presidential Decree “On additional measures for the accelerated development of entrepreneurship in the Aral Sea region” from 23 November 2021, a number of tax benefits were provided to business entities in the Muynak region, in connection with which, by the end of the first quarter of 2024, 296 enterprises had 1.5 billion soums.

In addition, in the first quarter of 2024, 12,867 business entities used tax benefits in the amount of 30.1 billion soums.

During the meeting, it was noted that by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 9 February 2024 “On additional measures for comprehensive socio-economic development and ensuring employment of the population of the Republic of Karakalpakstan” in 2024 in the region it is planned to implement 421 investment projects worth 6.5 trillion soums, providing employment of more than 120 thousand residents in permanent, seasonal and temporary work.

Targeted programs have also been approved to involve the population in business activities, put up land plots for auction for the purpose of developing roadside infrastructure, vocational training, retraining of the population, and put up for auction the rights to use non-metallic deposits and mineral deposits.

At the end of the discussion, the main directions of parliamentary control over the implementation of measures for comprehensive socio-economic development and employment of the population of the Republic of Karakalpakstan were determined and a corresponding Senate resolution was adopted.
