Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In pursuance of the instructions that were set by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 5 February during a video conference meeting to discuss priority issues in social spheres, including a number of tasks in the field of maternal and child health protection.

One of them is determined to cover training seminars with the participation of international experts, specialists from twenty cities and regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the highest rates of maternal and child mortality.

To realize this goal, on 8-9 February, the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health, together with the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, organized a training seminar on current issues of obstetrics and reserves for reducing maternal mortality, improving the quality of medical care in obstetric institutions.

The seminar takes place in the city of Karshi on the basis of the Khorezm branch of the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health. 30 specialists from the city of Karshi and the districts of Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Navoi, Samarkand and Bukhara regions are taking part in it.

At the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister of Health Elmira Basitkhanova and Director of the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health Natalya Nadyrkhanova addressed the participants.

The trainers are specialists from the Republican Scientific and Practical Center “Mother and Child” of the Republic of Belarus, including obstetricians-gynecologists, anesthesiologists, and resuscitators.

Currently, they are on a visit to the Kashkadarya branch of the Maternal and Child Health Center, where they provide methodological and therapeutic assistance. The working visit of Minsk specialists is expected to last for one month.

Such training seminars will subsequently be organized in 4 more regions of Uzbekistan, where participants from nearby areas will be attracted.

As Tatyana Lemeshevskaya, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Republican Center “Mother and Child” of the Republic of Belarus, noted, in the Republic of Uzbekistan the process of developing National Clinical Protocols (NCP) is well established, since any teaching process conducted by international specialists always involves adapting the material provided to the requirements of the NCP. The expert noted that the National Protocols in Uzbekistan were created on the basis of international standards and criteria and include modern and the latest scientific evidence. Work on these Protocols will help reduce maternal mortality rates; it is important that NCPs exclude the use of unsafe drugs during pregnancy and, in general, the factor of polypharmacy.

The Belarusian specialist especially notes that all Protocols were assessed and underwent international examination by WHO specialists, which is today one of the main requirements for the preparation of Protocols throughout the world.

Also, as part of further establishing cooperation in the field of maternal and child health between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Belarus, on 8 February, an Agreement on cooperation in the field of healthcare was signed between the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health of Uzbekistan and the Main Health Department of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee of the Republic Belarus. On the Belarusian side, the Agreement was signed by the head of this structure of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee, Lyudmila Keda.

The agreement stipulates the development and strengthening of mutual cooperation between medical institutions of the two countries, the expansion of direct ties between treatment and preventive organizations, and the exchange of experience in the field of practical medicine.

Leadership of Uzbekistan has set the country’s healthcare system the task of attracting foreign specialists with modern management skills to manage perinatal centers. 8.5 thousand midwives should master advanced technologies for reproductive health and care for pregnant women; all maternity complexes will be gradually equipped with modern medical equipment.
