The Asian Women’s Forum to be held in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 13-14 May, the Asian Women’s Forum will be held in the city of Samarkand on the topic “Regional approach to issues of economic, social and political rights of women and empowerment,” Dunyo news agency reported.

According to the information service of the upper house of parliament, the initiative to hold this forum was put forward by the President of our country at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in order to realize the creative potential of women leaders of the countries of the region, exchange experience in further expanding their participation in government and society, in economy.

It is expected that the forum will be attended by women parliamentarians from the countries of East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Central Asia, heads of government, representatives of government bodies and civil society institutions, business women, political scientists, social activists, scientists, representatives of economic sectors and various areas.

The forum will be held in 10 parallel sessions. Participants will discuss issues of women’s participation in science, education and innovation, as well as the use of digital technologies, poverty reduction through women’s economic empowerment, involving them in entrepreneurship and innovation, and ensuring their leadership in the modern global economy.

In addition, the issue of women’s participation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will be addressed. Particular attention will be paid to women’s economic empowerment, the role of parliaments in stimulating their participation in business and society, gender-responsive budgeting, eliminating gender disparities in the use of financial opportunities, and eradicating all forms of violence against women and children.

Participants will discuss best practices and innovative approaches of non-governmental non-profit organizations to promoting a green economy, the impact of climate change on gender issues in the region, and protecting the rights and interests of women.

As a result of the forum, it is planned to adopt the Samarkand Declaration.
