Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 October 2022, the first Republican Festival of Pomegranate Growers began its work as part of the project "Technical assistance to the marketing of horticulture in Uzbekistan", implemented with the support of the Commission of the European Union, the World Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and also the International Center for Strategic Development and Research in the Agricultural Sphere under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the development of the agricultural and food sectors Shukhrat Ganiev.

The event was organized by the Association of Pomegranate Growers of Uzbekistan with the support of the European Union, the World Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with the participation of the Khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region, the Council of Young Farmers of Uzbekistan and a number of other organizations.

The festival is attended by international financial organizations and representatives of foreign countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkey, Korea, China, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

Within the framework of the event, a scientific and practical seminar will be held. Participants will get acquainted with the South and North demo sites, get acquainted with the features of growing pomegranate on drip irrigation on the basis of the Sardorbek Sultanbek Samir Daler farm, and will also have the opportunity to visit the Sherobod Anor Impex processing plant.

The purpose of the event is to revive the Association of Pomegranate Growers of Uzbekistan on an independent basis to stimulate the development of the industry, improve the skills of pomegranate growers, increase the production of high-quality certified products, export them under a single brand, expand the geography of sales, as well as in-depth study of the needs of the main market players for the development of the Pomegranate Development Program in Uzbekistan.

During the Day of Pomegranate Growers, ceremonies will be held for tasting pomegranate juice, weighing the largest pomegranate and choosing the best producer of pomegranate juice in the country. According to the results of the competitions, the winners of the nominations "The most delicious pomegranate juice - 2022", "The most delicious variety of pomegranates", "The largest grant - 2022", "The most skillfully peeled pomegranate" will be awarded honorary diplomas and memorable gifts.
