Uzbekistan 28/05/2007 Thailand, Uzbekistan to set joint cooperation commission

A delegation of Thailand led by its Deputy Foreign Minister of Thailand Sawanit Kongsiri paid an official visit to Uzbekistan [on 23-24 May]. The delegation held negotiations with Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan, National Drug Control Centre under Cabinet of Ministers. The delegation also visited historic and cultural sights of Tashkent and Samarkand.

Mr Kongsiri said in interview to Jahon news agency [of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry] the visit of Thai delegation to Uzbekistan aimed at exchange of opinion on further development of strengthening of the Uzbek-Thai relations in various spheres and discuss situation in Central Asian region.

Thai official expressed his satisfaction with negotiations at the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and expressed his assurance that the contacts between states will develop.

Kongsiri said the sides are planning to set up joint Uzbek-Thai commission on cooperation in economy, finance and culture to carry out negotiations.

He said the agreement on cooperation with Foreign Ministries of two states was signed within framework of the visit. The agreement envisages to stir up cooperation of Foreign Ministries on bilateral and multilateral levels, to conduct political consultations and exchange experience in training of diplomatic staff.

Thai deputy minister said the delegation was impressed with sights of Samarkand, which marks 2,750th anniversary this year. He added that sights in Samarkand and other cities of Uzbekistan can be interesting for Thai tourists. He said Thai tour operators will visit Uzbekistan to develop cooperation in this sphere.

Kongsiri said the visit of Thai delegation to Uzbekistan will promote strengthening of cooperation and mutual understanding between countries of two states.
