Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2-7 October, the 14th International Tournament in memory of al-Hakim at-Termeziy for the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be held in the Termez sports complex "Alpomysh".

The national heritage of the Uzbek people - Kurash - is the oldest type of martial arts, the history of which dates back more than 3000 years. Today it is one of the most prestigious and rapidly developing international sports.

Since 2006, the Asian Olympic Council has recognized Kurash as an Asian sport, and has officially taken pride of place in the Asian martial arts games.

The traditional international tournament in memory of al-Hakim at-Termiziy for the prize of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been held since 1993 every two years. During this time, more than eight hundred palvans from more than 100 countries of the world measured their strengths on Termez rugs.

The 50 best athletes from 150 countries are expected to participate in the prestigious sports event in Terem. The tournament is organized by the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports, the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, the National Kurash Federation in Uzbekistan, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on tourism development with the assistance of the Khokimiyat of Surkhandarya region.
