Temu marketplace blocked in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Access to the Chinese marketplace Temu has been blocked in Uzbekistan.

Users attempting to open the website receive a message stating that "access to the information resource is restricted based on Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 707, from 5 September 2018." The mobile application also functions unstably, with intermittent disruptions.

Potential restrictions on Temu in Uzbekistan were first reported in early March. According to a joint statement from the National Agency for Advanced Projects and the Tax Committee, Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 885, from 26 December 2024, mandates that only companies registered as residents of Uzbekistan can operate as e-commerce platforms in the country. This regulation took effect upon its official publication.

An analysis of foreign marketplaces operating in Uzbekistan revealed non-compliance with national laws in areas such as e-commerce, retail trade, advertising, personal data protection, consumer rights, and intellectual property.

As a result, it was announced that Temu’s access in Uzbekistan would be restricted starting from 20 March 2025. However, the marketplace could resume operations after registering as a local entity and ensuring compliance with national regulations.

On 18 March, the Tax Committee confirmed that Temu had officially registered as a legal entity in Uzbekistan and obtained tax residency. However, authorities are still reviewing outstanding issues related to its prior operations, and negotiations are ongoing.

A final decision regarding Temu’s future activities in Uzbekistan will be announced once all procedures are completed.
