Telegram team comments on Pavel Durov’s arrest

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Telegram team has commented on the arrest of the messenger’s founder Pavel Durov in France, labeling all accusations against him as absurd.

In a statement released by the team, it was noted that the accusations claiming Telegram or its owner are responsible for “abuses on the platform” are unfounded.

Telegram emphasizes that it complies with European Union laws, including the Digital Services Act, and that its moderation practices fully adhere to industry standards and are continually improving.

The statement also asserts that CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and frequently travels across Europe. The claims suggesting the platform or its owner’s involvement in abuses on the platform are described as ludicrous.

The messenger team highlighted that nearly 1 billion users worldwide rely on Telegram for communication and receiving important information, and expressed hope for a swift resolution to the current situation.

On 25 August 2024, Telegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested at Le Bourget Airport, located in a suburb of Paris.

Durov is suspected of several crimes, including Telegram’s alleged refusal to cooperate with French authorities.

He may face charges such as terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, and money laundering. If found guilty, the businessman could face up to 20 years in prison.
