Team success key for MVP Gevorkyan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Artur Gevorkyan was delighted to be named the AFC Cup's Most Valuable Player but insisted capturing the trophy alongside his team-mates gave him the most satisfaction.

Gevorkyan played a pivotal role in Nasaf's 2-1 victory over Kuwait Sports Club in the final at Karshi Central Stadium, setting up second-half goals for Ilkhom Shomurodov and Anderjs Pereplotkins.

First, a fine piece of individual skill saw the midfielder wriggle through a crowded box and although his fierce shot was saved, he had the presence of mind to pick out Shomurodov for an easy tap-in.

Shortly afterwards, Gevorkyan's driving run down the right ended with a low cross that was expertly turned in from close range by Pereplotkins.

It was the culmination of a fine tournament for the 29-year-old Turkmenistan international, whose delivery from the flanks has been crucial to Nasaf's historic success alongside his eye for goal.

"I am very happy to be the MVP of such a great tournament but the most important thing for me is team success," said Gevorkyan.

"I have experience in the AFC Champions League but I do not think the AFC Cup is a second-tier competition. I think it is on the same level. Therefore, for me it is a great honour to be MVP of the tournament.

"But I have to appreciate my team-mates, who scored goals from my passes. I have to appreciate our defence for not conceding goals. It was a team success and it is a great success."

A number of those crosses were converted by Ivan Boskovic, who collected the Top Scorer award after netting 10 goals in this season's competition.

Boskovic proved Nasaf's main goal threat from when he opened his side's account in their opening group game against Al Ansar, scoring four times in the 9-0 rout of Dempo and grabbing crucial goals at Chonburi and Al Wehdat to help his team reach the final.

Boskovic was uncharacteristically wayward against Kuwait SC, however, wasting a number of good chances to add to his tally.

Like Gevorkyan, the Montenegrin marksman dedicated his success to his team-mates.

"It is a great honour for me to be top scorer but my goals alone were not enough for the team to win the trophy," he said.

"Therefore I am more pleased with the team's win rather than my personal success. For example today I did not score but I am happy since we won. Individual success is good for you but cup success is much better."

Nasaf also collected the Fair Play Award to make it a clean sweep of trophies in this year's AFC Cup.
