Tashkent to host international conference on water diplomacy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 April, Tashkent will host the International Scientific and Practical Conference on the topic: "Water Diplomacy in Central Asia: Trust, Dialogue, and Multilateral Cooperation for Sustainable Development."
The event is organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan and the National Research University of TIIIMSX, with support from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the International Water Management Institute, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the German Society for International Cooperation.
This unique platform will bring together over 100 participants from more than 10 countries, gathering prominent experts from all the countries in the Aral Sea Basin, including specialists from strategic institutes and water management agencies of Central Asia, Afghanistan, as well as from Asia, Europe, the CIS, and other regions.
Representatives from diplomatic missions in Uzbekistan and delegations from around 15 international and regional organizations will also attend, including the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCPD), the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (RECCA), the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (SIC ICWC), and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), among others.
The focus of the experts will be on water diplomacy, which has become an essential tool for promoting an effective model of water cooperation in Central Asia. Engaging discussions and productive exchanges of views are expected, with the formulation of recommendations and proposals to expand cooperation in this area.
The conference will be a significant contribution from Central Asian countries to the development of conceptual foundations for water diplomacy, reinforcing their positions as active participants in shaping the international water cooperation agenda.
The forum will take place at the National Research University of TIIIMSX as part of the celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of this unique academic institution, which will also host nearly 300 domestic and international scientists from more than 20 countries.
