Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent Metro has begun work on opening second entrances at five stations.
The work is currently underway at the stations "Milliy Bog", "Mashinasozlar", "Uzbekistan", "Gafur Gulom", and "Yunus Rajabi."
These projects had been left unfinished for nearly 30-40 years.
Due to the increase in passenger traffic in 2023, the metro proposed to put these entrances into operation. The Government of Uzbekistan approved the plans and authorized the necessary work.
The "Tashmetrotrans" design institute at the Tashkent Metro developed projects for the opening of all the closed entrances, which were then submitted for state examination. Afterward, the projects were put up for tender to select a contracting organization.
According to the metro’s press service, the demand for underground transportation is growing daily. While the metro served 280,000-300,000 passengers per day in 2021, by 2024, this figure had reached 920,000-930,000.
By the end of 2024, the number of metro passengers is expected to reach around one million.
