Tashkent hosts Uzbek-Hungarian political consultations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Political consultations between the Foreign Affairs Ministries of Uzbekistan and Hungary at the level of the ministers of foreign affair were held in Tashkent. The event was held within the visit of Hungarian Foreign Minister Janos Martonyi to Uzbekistan.

The sides underlined that the visits of Hungarian President Arpad Goncz to Uzbekistan in October-November 1997 and the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Hungary in October 2002, held negotiations and signed documents within them, as well as meeting of the President Karimov with Hungarian President Pal Schmitt at the UN Summit in September 2010 created favourable opportunities for expansion of the Uzbek-Hungarian relations.

During the consultations, the sides acknowledged importance of deepening cooperation between two states, based on principles of equality, mutual respect and taking account interests of each others. The sides stated mutual intention to expand contacts in various levels, including in high level and exchange of opinion on bilateral relations, regional and international issues through regular political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan and Hungary.

Hungarian side highly rated implementation of the Concept on further deepening democratic reforms and formation of civil society in the country, which is directed at expanding authority of the parliament, strengthening independence of the courts, improving role of mass media and NGOs. The sides plan to assist parliaments, parties and public circles to expand their ties.

During the meeting, the sides expressed readiness to assist each other to increase the volume of bilateral trade turnover, expand all complex of trade-economic and investment cooperation, actively use gained experience in this area.

The sides affirmed their interest in diversification of investment and business cooperation through implementation of concrete projects in energy and energy saving, medicine, logistics, chemical, pharmaceutical, textile and processing industries, and other perspectives spheres of economy.

The parties deemed it expedient to carry out targeted work on attracting potential investors of Hungary to implementation of projects on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of industry of Uzbekistan.

The sides vowed to create the Uzbek-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on trade-economic cooperation, which will play key role in strengthening cooperation in this direction.

During the consultations, the sides underlined readiness to assist each other for closer cooperation in transport communication and transit. The sides called for attracting Hungarian companies to implementation of projects at the Navoi free industrial-economic zone through investment, technological or other participation in creation of the joint ventures.

Coincidence and closeness of positions of Uzbekistan and Hungary on key international issues help for further expanding and deepening mutual beneficial cooperation to strengthening security and stability in Euro-Atlantic and Central Asian regions.

The Hungarian side highly rated assistance of Uzbekistan it ISAF forces in Afghanistan and weighted position of Uzbekistan during tragic events in southern Kyrgyzstan in June 2010.

Within the consultations, the Hungarian side supported intention of Uzbekistan to solve problems with use of water resources in the Central Asian region based on commonly accepted international rules, taking into account interests of the states.

It was said that it is important to find consensus on this issue and carry out independent international expertise of the projects to evaluate possible negative consequences of construction of large hydro power stations to trans-boundary water flow of the region.

The sides stated that taking into account rich historical-cultural and scientific-technical potential and spiritual heritage of the Uzbek and Hungarian people, the countries will make efforts to further developing interaction in education, science and equipment, culture, healthcare, sports and tourism, supporting development of partnership between regions and cities for further deepening of cooperation and friendship.

Expressing satisfaction with the constructive negotiations, the official adopted decision on increasing efficiency of implementation of achieved and existing agreements.
