Tashkent hosts event on use of wheat and leguminous breeding materials
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted a workshop “On exchange of international nurseries in Central Asia and the Caucasus: past achievements and future prospects” on 28-29 February 2012, which was dedicated to discussion of opportunities and perspectives on use of stratified wheat and leguminous plants.

For last 17 years, about 50 wheat and leguminous agriculture cultures were nursed in Central Asia and Southern Caucasus.

Representatives of scientific-research institutes and heads of national research programmes of Central Asia and Southern Caucasus, which are cooperating with International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) participated at the event to discuss issues of use of breeding materials (wheat, barley, chick-pea, lentil and others), provided by ICARDA to selectionists in the region.

For the first time in 17 years, participants analyzed the results of the use of breeding materials, provided by ICARDA, and discussed ways of improving work in future.

Annually ICARDA provides new set of breeding materials to all interested countries of the region on their request. The participants discussed data, received within international selection programme and feedbacks of scientists on provision of breeding materials. The sides also exchanged experience on use of breeding materials in irrigated and dry lands, etc.
