The project was organized by Fund Forum, “In the Name of Life” National Breast Cancer Association and Women’s Council.
The organizers said that over 4,000 people, who purchased T-shirts of marathon-forum, participated at the event. They gathered at the Turkiston Palace along with chairperson of Trustee Council of Fund Forum to support women with breast cancer and victims of tragic events in Boston.
This year, in a sign of solidarity with and respect for the marathon movement around the globe, the Organizing Committee has made a decision to postpone the Tashkent leg of Susan G. Komen Uzbekistan Race for the Cure and hold a charity concert in support of the marathon movement on 27 April.
The campaign was attended by representatives of partner organizations, diplomatic corps, international organizations, sponsors, celebrities, doctors, etc. Among them were also children and youth, who expressed their wishes with paintings on asphalt.
Uzbek celebrities like Zarba, Sahro, Sato, Jahongir Poziljonov, Ulugbek Rahmatullaev, Lola, Shakhzoda, Nilufar Usmanova and other presented their songs to all those, who gathered at the Turkiston Palace.
Gulnara Karimov said that she is happy that the organizers were able to replace marathon with such event and support Boston. She added that charity never ends and has no border. She said that this year over 200,000 people attended regional stages of marathon and said that Tashkent stage would attract more people if it was organized. She expressed gratitude to all those who supported project.
Afterwards, all participants released pink balloons to sky with peace and kindness wishes to support women with breast cancer and victims of Boston tragic events.
The charity marathon is organized annually and raised funds are directed at supporting women with breast cancer, their treatment and organization of free diagnosis in the region.
The marathon was held in all regions of Uzbekistan in 2013 along with charity football matches. Some 59,000 people attended marathon and over 163,000 people watched football matches. Overall, it attracted over 222,000 people.
Final charity football matches were held at Bunyodkor stadium in Tashkent on 25 April. It attracted over 34,000 people. Gulnara Karimova handed over 10 million soums to National Breast Cancer Association and teams - 30 million soums.
