Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Contemporary Art in Tashkent, together with the Kino Klassika Foundation, presents TASHKENT FILM ENCOUNTERS - a film program dedicated to the classic cinema of Central Asia.

This season, Kino Klassika continues its long tradition of screening classic films from Soviet, Russian and Caucasian film schools, expanding its screening program to include contemporary classics from Central Asian cinema.

As part of the film program, a selection of contemporary filmmakers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be shown. Free access to films for the week will open every Tuesday from 21 July to 18 August 2020.

The main TASHKENT FILM ENCOUNTERS program, which will be held online at www.kinoklassikafoundation.org, is a unique collaboration between CCA Tashkent, the Kino Klassika Foundation, directors and film studios of the region. The program includes works by talented Central Asian filmmakers who were rarely broadcast to the general public, including the highly acclaimed Darezhan Omirbayev from Kazakhstan, whose work competed for the Cannes Film Festival's Un Certain Regard awards in 2012, and Aktan Arym Kubat from Kyrgyzstan, one of the famous directors of Asian cinema.

Kino Klassika draws attention to films, whose directors interact with the post-Soviet reality and the mission of each country to create its own cinema language. As always, at the Kino Klassiki screenings, each tape will be accompanied by specially prepared notes and a series of podcasts led by Dr. Maria Korolkova with filmmakers and experts in Central Asian cinema, including a season introduction from the project curator and renowned Uzbek director Saodat Ismailova.
