Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent Department of Emergency Situations conducted a fire drill during a New Year’s performance at the Tashkent State Circus.

On 27 December, simulated smoke filled the circus arena, prompting an evacuation of the audience. Videos circulating on social media show smoke in the upper rows, children screaming, evacuation announcements, and the sound of fire engine sirens.

On 29 December, the department clarified that the incident was a planned exercise to test the readiness and responsiveness of fire and rescue teams in the event of an actual fire.

“In connection with New Year celebrations, we are inspecting the preparedness of fire and rescue crews for prompt responses to potential emergencies and fires at public events,” the agency stated.

The department also urged citizens to strictly follow fire safety rules.
