Tashkent Economic Court rejects appeal of Unitel
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent Economic Court rejected to satisfy appeal of Unitel LLC, a subsidiary of Vimpelcom Ltd in Uzbekistan (works under Beeline brand) to the decision of the antimonopoly bodies on its inclusion to the list of monopoly companies, RIA Novosti reported.

At the same time, the court satisfied similar appeal of Coscom, a subsidiary of TeliaSonera in Uzbekistan (woks under Ucell brand).

The court representative said that the court considered all documents and established that Unitel currently dominates in mobile communication market, while Coscom does not.

Unitel representative said that the operator plans to appeal the decision of the court.

In early May, the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for privatization, demonopolization and development of competition said it included two operators to the state registrar of the companies, which dominates in the market. The committee said that Unitel holds 54% stake in the market and Coscom – 41%. In line with the legislation of Uzbekistan, the companies, which hold share of 65% and over are included to the registrar of the monopoly enterprises. In some cases, the companies with market share from 35% to 65% can be also included to this list.

The operators submitted appeals to the court saying that exit of Uzdunrobita (MTS subsidiary in Uzbekistan) resulted in the growth of their share in the market. Before the closure of Uzdunrobita, each operator held about 33% of market share. Both noted that if new company enters mobile communication market, their share will fell.
