Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A solemn event was held in Tashkent to mark the 30th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, T. Narbaeva, participated in the ceremony.
In her speech, Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts for the benefit of the younger generation.
The event highlighted that over the three decades of partnership, numerous projects have been implemented to improve the quality of life for children, ensure access to education and healthcare, and protect them from all forms of violence and discrimination.
UNICEF plays a key role in supporting Uzbekistan’s initiatives to create a favorable environment for children by providing technical assistance and resources for the implementation of comprehensive programs. This collaboration has been an essential factor in promoting international child rights standards in the country, including the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
For many years, Uzbekistan has been conducting systematic work to create favorable conditions for the development of its younger generation. In recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the country has undertaken large-scale efforts to ensure the rights and interests of children.
The legal and institutional foundations for the protection of children’s rights have been continuously improved. Over the past years, a number of significant laws and regulations have been adopted to protect children, ensure their well-being, and create conditions for their harmonious development.
In November 2024, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Law on Protection of Children from All Forms of Violence, marking an important step in strengthening the national child protection system. This law prohibits all forms of violence and toughens penalties for violations.
Uzbekistan is also actively developing an inclusive education system, with large-scale programs being implemented in healthcare, social protection, and child education.
Cooperation with UNICEF will continue in priority areas such as healthcare, social protection, education, and other key sectors. Special attention is given to creating a safe, healthy, and prosperous environment that enables every child to realize their potential.
These joint efforts reflect Uzbekistan’s commitment to international child rights standards and the country’s goal of ensuring that the interests of children are securely protected.
