Tashiro Muto: We’re not thinking about canceling Tokyo 2020 at all

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Executive Director of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee Toshiro Muto noted that information about the possible cancellation of the Olympics is not true.

Earlier, Japanese media reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizers of the Tokyo Games in February will discuss the future of the competition.

“Some people may be worried about these messages. I just want to say that we absolutely do not think about canceling the Games. Any such messages are untrue,” the organizers of Tokyo 2020 note.

At the same time, recent polls of the Japanese have shown that more than 80 percent of people believe that the Olympics should be canceled or postponed. Some of them believe that it will not take place anyway due to the high number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The chairman of the organizing committee of the Games, Yoshiro, metaphorically assured the public that the Olympics would take place: “Spring always comes, and morning comes even after long nights. With this belief, we will do our best to bring joy and hope to many people. "
