Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent is hosting a working visit of the President of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) Osama Ahmad Al-Shafar. The guest of honor met with the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the head of the Cycling Federation of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva.
During the meeting, issues of further development of cycling in our country, popularization of cycling among the population, especially the active involvement of young people and women in this sport, training of professional athletes, as well as the implementation of long-term plans together with the Asian Cycling Confederation were discussed.
During the dialogue, Tanzila Narbayeva noted that thanks to the support provided by the Asian Cycling Confederation, the Uzbekistan Cycling Federation is making significant progress. In particular, the men’s and women’s teams of Uzbekistan occupy a worthy place in the UCI Olympic rating grid, the men’s team has risen from 52nd to 34th place, and the women’s team - from 22nd to 17th place.
In turn, Osama Ahmad al Shafar highly appreciated the efforts made in Uzbekistan to develop cycling, the conditions created for athletes, especially noted that athletes have won their rightful place in the world in a short time, and the Asian continent is proud of the achievements of Uzbek athletes. He also stressed that the Asian Cycling Confederation is ready to continue to support ongoing work to develop cycling in Uzbekistan.
During the conversation, proposals and comments were also made on organizing road, mountain and track cycling competitions in our country, holding Asian championships.
An agreement was reached on further expanding cooperation on such priority issues as strengthening the material and technical base of the Uzbekistan cycling team, thorough preparation of athletes for the upcoming major competitions with the involvement of foreign coaches.
