Tanzila Narbaeva Holds Meetings with Inter-Parliamentary Union Leadership in Geneva
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva took part in the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) member states in Geneva, where she held a series of bilateral meetings with leaders of international organizations.
During her talks with IPU President Tulia Ackson, Uzbekistan’s initiatives in digitalization, gender equality, youth policy, and environmental sustainability, presented at the 150th Anniversary Assembly of the IPU, received high praise. Special emphasis was placed on expanding youth and women’s participation in parliamentary work and on the need to design and implement new programs to encourage active youth engagement in lawmaking.
Narbaeva recalled that, at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, the creation of a Global Platform of Youth Parliaments under the IPU was proposed. In this context, Uzbekistan expressed readiness to host the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in 2026.
She also met with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong to discuss prospects for further expanding and deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IPU, noting that the partnership has been developing dynamically and yielding tangible results.
The parties also exchanged views on the organizational aspects of hosting the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in Uzbekistan in 2026, as well as on the initiative to convene the 3rd Global Forum on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
